KUCHING: The Puncak Borneo Parliamentary Service Centre is carrying out a Covid-19 vaccine registration outreach programme to assist more people to register for the vaccination in the constituency.

MP Puncak Borneo Datuk Willie Mongin said that his service centre had distributed the Covid-19 vaccine registration forms through its community leaders (ketua masyarakat and ketua kampung) to register residents in the rural areas that have limited Internet access.

He said the completed forms will be returned to his service centre and then be submitted to the National Security Council (MKN) for further action.

“Besides that, Puncak Borneo Service Centre also prepares two special counters at the service centre with Internet access to register the Covid-19 vaccine,” he said when giving a briefing during the Malaysia Prihatin programme at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) headquarters here today.

He, therefore, hoped other constituencies could provide the same measures to help register the rural community.

Willie, who is also the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, said the registration for the vaccine would ease the government’s process in ordering the vaccine as well.

“Registration to get the vaccine will make it easier for the government in ordering the vaccine as the procurement takes some time including the delivery.

“Once we register, we are also helping the government in its plan in purchasing the vaccine because the process needs to be done properly in view that the vaccine is temperature-sensitive,” he said.

Earlier, State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) deputy chairman Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik said the number of vaccine registration in the state was still unsatisfactory.

“As of April 9, only a total of 1.25 million out of the 2.1 million eligible Sarawakians have registered for the vaccine,” he said.

The DBNA president, therefore, urged the DBNA members to help disseminate information on the importance of receiving the vaccine which is to protect oneself from getting infected by the virus.

“We do not force people to take the vaccine, but we encourage them to come forward to be vaccinated as this is part of the strategy to overcome this Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Also present were DBNA deputy president Chali @ Charlie Ungang and Kuching Division information officer Magdellina Alfred Jeho.
