Indonesian in hot soup over air rifle, no valid travel documents

MUKAH: An Indonesian man was arrested by police for not only owning an air rifle but also having no valid travel documents.

Mukah OCPD DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias ​​said a raid was carried out around 6pm on a workers quarters in a plantation in Jalan Selangau-Mukah on Tuesday (March 8).

“The 35-year-old, who works as a labourer, failed to provide any valid travel documents.

“We also found an air rifle, a bottle believed to contain spirit, 20 marbles, a white sack and a blue plastic bag in the room.

“According to the suspect, he bought the air rifle, marbles as well as the spirit for RM50 from a friend known only as Agus.”

The suspect, who hails from Loko Ry, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, admitted to entering Sarawak in 2019 through Tebedu and then continued to work in an oil palm plantation.

“We have sent a letter to the Immigration Department to review the suspect’s entry and exit records apart from sending an arrest notification letter to the Indonesian Consulate and Interpol.

“As for the air rifle, we have sent it to the Armament Branch for serviceability test.”

The case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
