Over 1,000 cyclists in Customs charity ride

KOTA KINABALU: More than 1,000 participants joined in the 2019 Customs Charity Ride Programme at Padang Merdeka, here yesterday.

Customs director-general Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy said the charity cycling event was a traditional event organised annually as part of the World Customs Day celebration.

“The objective of this ride is to foster the spirit of cooperation, to cultivate tolerance, patience and to nurture a culture of caring among the people and Customs staff in an effort to help the less fortunate,” he said in his speech at the launch of the charity ride.

Meanwhile, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal in his text of speech read out by Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Arunarnsin Taib hoped that such sporting activity could foster positive values and improve the quality of life and well-being of the community.- Bernama
