SIBU: Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing pointed out that our cultural tradition and heritage, such as sape music were priceless treasures and must be safeguarded to remain a source of pride for all Sarawakians.
He emphasised its importance for the future generation, as they play a pivotal role in shaping our national and cultural identity.
“The establishment of the Kelab Sape Dayak Sibu (KSDS) centre provides a dedicated space for preserving the traditional music of the Orang Ulu community, particularly sape,” he said in his speech read by his representative councillor Paul Teo during the launching ceremony today.
Tiong stressed on the need to cultivate interest and involvement from the younger generation, who are the custodians of our nation’s heritage.
“I am delighted to witness the enthusiastic participation of many young individuals in this club. It reflects our collective efforts to elevate our cultural heritage,” he said.
Tiong who is also Dudong assemblyman expressed confidence that the youth’s passion for culture would foster harmony, unity, mutual respect and understanding among our diverse communities.
He urged the KSDS committees and members to continue their effort in preserving and promoting the local cultural art to reach a greater height in recognition.
