Over 400 nurses attend International Nurses Day do

KUCHING: Affordable healthcare services should be accessible to all regardless of the environment.

According to State Matron Aieshah Zainudin, health is a human right simply means that all humans have the right to access affordable and quality healthcare at a time when they need it the most.

She added that nurses are in the position of being able to influence and make decision to ensure that no matter where the location is, no matter what the setting is, healthcare should be accessible to all.

“Healthcare system is an essential element of a healthy and equitable society.

“When health is viewed as a human right, there is a demand on us to take actions and hold responsibility to enable us to access our health system, and these benefits should be the cornerstone of an effective system which will ultimately flow into our community and country,” Aieshah said in her speech at the State-level International Nurses Day 2018 celebration at Sultan Iskandar Building,Simpang Tiga here, yesterday.

She also pointed out that a human right perspective on health means that wherever they live, they can receive healthcare to assist with their health needs.

Aieshah also urged all nurses in the state to become a voice for human healthcare rights.

“Let us continue our commitment and dedication to health and nursing care and transform healthcare and health system.

“Nurses are essential in transforming healthcare and health system so that no one is left behind,” she said.

More than 400 nurses from the Sarawak Health Department, Sarawak General Hospital, Malaysian Nurses Association Sarawak Branch, Sarawak Midwife Association and Sarawak Nursing Professional Association took part in the celebration.
