KUCHING: Eight commercial vehicle drivers will be charged for transporting more than the specified load limit.

The Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) said an operation codenamed ‘Ops Kenderaan Perdagangan’ was carried out by the Kuching RTD Operation Unit and the police at Jalan Keruing here last week.

“A total of eight commercial vehicle drivers were issued non-compliance notices for overloading.

“For this offence, the drivers will be charged under Section 19(1) of the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Act 1987.

“They will be brought to the court in the near future,” the department said in a statement today.

The team also issued a total of 23 notices of non-compliance to road users who failed to comply with the road rules such as not having a driver’s licence, not having a goods driving licence (GDL) and driving without road tax.

RTD said it will continue to conduct enforcement that focuses on ensuring that users comply with existing road laws.
