Owner’s quick response saves house from being razed

KUCHING: Quick response by a man prevented his house from being destroyed by fire in Kampung Badong, Daro in Mukah last Tuesday night.

The incident occurred around 8.00pm when one of the bedrooms of the wooden house suddenly caught fire. The man who is also the house owner managed to put out the fire with his neighbours’ help using water from a nearby drain.

A team of three firefighters in a boat and four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle from Mukah fire station were dispatched to the scene after being notified on the incident at 8.12pm.

Three members of Daro voluntary firefighting unit also rushed to the scene after being alerted on the incident by villagers.

According to a spokesman of Mukah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), 15 per cent of the bedroom was damaged  and 13 people were staying at the house at the time of the incident.

No human casualties and injuries were reported and the cause of the fire were still under investigation.
