Parishioners save church’s kitchen from burning

BINTULU: Swift action by committee members of St Peter Church Kampung Hock Lee, Tatau managed to prevent the church’s kitchen from being completely razed by fire on Sunday.

They reportedly used three fire extinguishers to put out the blaze, believed to have been caused by unattended lit candles.

According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue department operations centre, the church’s kitchen was partially damaged in the 11am incident.

The department had deployed a fire engine with seven personnel from Tatau fire station to the scene after responding to an alert on the incident.
