MIRI: Telang Usan Assemblyman Dennia Ngau has praised the National Youth Skills Miri Campus (IKBM) for conducting a two-day course in cookies and cake making and basic training on how to maintain four- wheel- drive vehicles at the Long San Longhouse.

He said such courses were timely and very much welcome in Telang Usan and Ulu Baram at a time when the country and the people were having a difficult time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Indeed, what the world is experiencing now is a situation we have never experienced in human history. The pandemic has brought a huge negative impact on almost every aspect of human life, especially the country’s economy,” he added at the closing of the two-day programme held in Long San on Saturday.

However, Malaysians, he pointed out, were blessed to have caring federal and state governments which continuously looked for ways to alleviate their burdens.

Dennis added the government had already rolled out assistance and most importantly, introduced post-Covid strategies to help the people, especially the youth, in their daily lives.

“These include financial assistance and basic training like these courses, especially for our youth in Telang Usan.

“I was told more than 36 youth from Long San and surrounding longhouses have benefited from the programmes,” Dennis added.

He urged the participants to take the basic training seriously and to put into practice what they had learnt.

Those who had learnt how to make cookies and cakes were told to sell their products at their longhouses and nearby areas where there were schools, clinics or logging companies.

He also announced an allocation of RM10,000 to the Kelab Pegawai dan Pelajar IKBM Miri.

Also present at the closing ceremony were Lamat Nyalau (director of IKBN Miri), local community leaders including Lucia Paya kalang (headlady of Long San Longhouse), Cr Dominic Nyurang (PBB Telang Usan youth chief), Cr Margaret Uding Nawan (head of PBB Telang Usan Wanita) and Cr Romulus Charles Agan (youth head of PDP, Telang Usan).
