KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) has denied claims that the party is sponsored by some political heavyweights who are in PH and GPS. Its president Voon Lee Shan said such allegations are mere campaigns to tarnish the good name of the party.

“It is not unexpected that PBK has placed itself in the limelight among our detractors because these people had attempted to pull a handbrake on us (sic) for moving forward in a very fast manner,” he told reporters in a press conference here yesterday. “I also want to clarify that no crony of PH, GPS or BN is sponsoring our cause.

Our party only has one mission that is to seek independence for Sarawak through constitutional means under domestic and international laws.

Voon tells reporters that they are not sponsored by any party such as PH,GPS or BN.

“Our quest is for independence, there is no way PBK will work with PH or any political party from Malaya. Therefore, to clear all doubts, PBK declares to the general public that it is not sponsored by any individual or party aligned to PH, GPS or BN as speculated,” stressed Voon.

He added that GPS’ fight for autonomy would not see Sarawak’s rights protected or returned. He said PBK is worried by the growing number of Malayans encroaching into areas of business and land in Sarawak.

He elaborated that in recent years, Sarawak had lost its marine wealth, oil and gas rights and native lands to mega companies from Malaya and huge tracts of state land to the federal government.

“The loss of revenues from marine wealth, oil and gas and other resources could amount to RM1 billion per day to the federal coffers. “This is not a small amount of money. Therefore, the fight for autonomy by GPS is not acceptable to PBK,” said Voon.
