The names were announced by the party’s president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing during the Majlis Ramah Tamah with PDP President after officiating the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Mas Gading Operational Room, here, today (Sept 18).

Speaking on behalf of the party, PDP’s vice president Datuk Henry Harry Jinep reaffirmed the announcement made by Tiong saying it will only nominate one candidate for both Mas Gading and Saratok.

“We have decided to submit these two nominated names to the GPS top leadership for the Mas Gading and Saratok parliamentary seats.

“With the launch of the operational room, we will start activating the party’s machinery for Mas Gading and we are ready to take back the seats for GPS in both areas,” said the Tasik Biru assemblyman during a press conference.

Currently, the Mas Gading parliamentary seat is held by Mordi Bimol from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Saratok is held by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Datuk Ali Biju from Bersatu.

Henry, who is also Deputy Minister of Transport hoped that there will be no backstabbing against the two PDP candidates.

“Our struggle is for the people and not for personal interest and other things,” he said.

He stressed that victory in both constituencies is very important in order to increase the number of GPS MPs to speak in the Dewan Rakyat.

“We need the strength of GPS voices in the Dewan Rakyat because we want to restore our rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“It doesn’t matter what party rules in Malaya, the important thing is that our voice in GPS is strong and heard,” he said.

Earlier, Tiong officiated the GPS MAS Gading Operational Room and among those present were PDP’s deputy president Datuk Anthony Nogeh, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik and PDP’s exco members.
