KOTA SAMARAHAN: Special Needs Excellence Centre (SNEC) trainers play a role in developing people with disabilities towards independent living.

Sarawak Social Welfare Department director Adana Jed said the centre would provide rehabilitation services, including medical treatment and vocational training. With conducive services being provided, they can become more productive while honing their talents.

“Let’s not forget the SNEC trainers. I hope they can become successful individuals in the future and not see their weaknesses as a weakness but rather as a stepping stone to turning those weaknesses into strengths.

“May the strong commitment of all parties serve as a driving force in raising the name of SNEC,” he said.

He said this in his text of speech delivered by his representative Mohammad Hazam Ismail during Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Dewan Serbaguna Pusat Pemulihan Samarahan @ Special Needs Excellence Centre (SNEC) here yesterday.

Through such events, Adana added, various segments of society could share their culture from the perspective of clothing, food, customs, and others.

For the record, the centre was established to provide rehabilitation services, including medical treatment and vocational training, to 100 people with disabilities (PwD) for a period of time so that they can become more productive and live independently.

The social work programme organised by a group of trainer teachers is a form of programme that is suitable for the needs and types of disabilities experienced by the trainees at the respective centre.

Every programme carried out will involve the cooperation of the trainees’ families, thus fostering a stronger relationship and support between the disabled and their families.

Through events like this, people from all walks of life can come together and appreciate each other’s cultures to create a more inclusive society that values and accepts people with disabilities
