Phase One of LPB project to complete soon

KUCHING: The implementation of Phase One of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Expressway (LPB) Project from Telok Melano to Miri is expected to be fully completed by the third quarter of this year.

Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the progress for the project along 786 kilometres (km) involving 11 work packages has reached 91 per cent completion as of December 2022.

“The implementation of the Sabah and Sarawak LPB Project is an initiative of the federal government to improve the federal road infrastructure in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

The Kapit MP said this in response to a question from Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Mar 30).

He added the 15 work packages currently being implemented for Phase One of the Sabah LPB Project with an estimated distance of 706km are currently at 73 per cent as of December 2022, and expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

“With the implementation of the Sabah and Sarawak LPB Project, it will not only improve the road network in Sarawak and Sabah, but also connects the countries of Brunei Darussalam and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

“At the same time, it will create job opportunities, be a catalyst for socioeconomic development and provide a faster and more comfortable travel route for the residents of Sabah and Sarawak in particular,” he said.
