Pilot chartered flight routes between China and Malaysia

KUCHING: Several chartered flight routes will be operated as a pilot project to boost connectivity between key destinations in China and Malaysia.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said Avic Ark Airline Service Co Ltd (AAA) chartered flights connecting Ningbo, Nanjing, Hefei, Hangzhou, Nanchang and Fuzhou to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in partnership with AirAsia, is expected to be launched in the coming festive season.

He said a total of 42 flights will serve six cities to Sabah while from March 2024, AAAS will also start chartered flights from Changsha and Chengdu to Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with Batik Air.

“Improving air connectivity between Malaysia and China is a major direction and priority for MoTAC.

“At the same time, Tourism Malaysia is also tasked with exploring possibilities for more routes to Sarawak,” he said in a statement, today.

Tiong is currently leading a MoTAC’s delegation to Beijing from Dec 8 to 20, and will continue the sales mission/roadshow to key Chinese markets such as Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai to promote tourism to Malaysia and boost connectivity.

He said the sales mission also takes advantage of the new 30-day visa-free entry policy to create momentum for a tourist-friendly environment.

The goal is to lay the groundwork for economic growth while rebooting the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.
