KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak will continue to champion Native Customary Rights (NCR) land rights for all natives.

The party has set up several special bureaux to deal with matters on health and NCR issues.

Its chairman Larry Sng said with the appointment of new office bearers, the party will focus on its core ideals and fight for the rights of natives in the state.

“We have set up a few bureaux including to look into welfare and policy, and may increase the number according to the needs.

“These bureaux can draw talent from members and experts in the field and their findings shall be presented to the state leadership for deliberation,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

Sng, who is also Julau MP said once agreed upon, it would form the basis of the party’s policy.

“Ideally we should have a bureau shadowing every ministry in the government,” he said.

He added that with Miri-based human rights lawyer Harrison Ngau Laing on board to head the NCR bureau, the renowned environmentalist could assist the party in fighting for NCR land rights.

“I have just assumed leadership of the party’s council, so give me time to prove my worth.

“But I believe that PKR will be more successful now under this new leadership, because we are willing to bring in talented people into positions of influence without compromising our principles,” he said.

The new officer bearers were appointed following the resignation of former chairman and Selangau MP Baru Bian who left the party in late February and also the recent sacking of See Chee How, Vernon Kedit and several other leaders from the party.
