KUCHING: The Civil Defence Force is proposing to establish new operation centres in every district of Sarawak specifically in rural areas to prepare for unexpected disasters, said Razi Sitam.

The Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development said that he had personally requested the establishment of the new centres in Debak, Spaoh and Betong that are already operating.

He stated that the matter had been proposed by the state APM to Putrajaya for further action.

Based on my observation, all of Sarawak, including rural and interior areas, needs to have these centres because there are many unexpected disasters.

The role of APM is not only to assist the Fire and Rescue Department, police, and others, but also to complement these agencies in facing unexpected disasters, he said.

He told this to the media after officiating at the closing ceremony of Latihan Pegawai Tak Bertauliah 2023 at the Sarawak Civil Defence Centre yesterday.

Meanwhile, he stated that he had personally requested an Operation Control Centre in Debak, which had recently been launched.

Razi said that the control centre was established through the cooperation of the unit with the state government, which allowed the agency to use government premises.

He said the state Civil Defence Force was now working to establish two more Operation Control Centres in Saratok and Pusa, which would be implemented gradually.

In the ceremony, 74 members successfully completed their one-week training.

Also present was state deputy director, Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Raja Muhammad Alhakim Raja Jaafar @ Raja Yaakub.
