KUCHING: The Perikatan Nasional (PN) government will fully assist Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming 12th state election.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that the PN Supreme Council in a meeting on April 3 had unanimously agreed that the coalition will mobilise its machinery at every level to ensure GPS victory.

“The closeness of the two top leaders during (Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s) official visit proves that the political understanding between the two parties is very good.

“They are also committed to further strengthen political cooperation between the PN and GPS in the future,” he said in a statement.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president chaired the meeting that was attended by leaders of PN component parties, namely, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (PAS president), Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey G Kitingan (STAR president), Senator Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee (SAPP president) and Datuk Dr Dominic Lau (Gerakan president).

During the meeting, he said the Supreme Council had also expressed its appreciation and gratitude to GPS chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for an extraordinary welcoming for Muhyiddin and his delegation during the official visit to Sarawak on April 1 and 2.

Hamzah added that PN also welcomed the establishment of Bersatu-PAS Meeting Committee at the central level to face the 15th general election as announced jointly by Bersatu and PAS on Mar 31.

“PN believes that the committee is capable of formulating a strong strategy to gain support of Bumiputeras while preserving the interests and rights of non-Bumiputeras in accordance with the Federal Constitution,” he said.
