KUCHING: Politeknik Kuching Sarawak will be implementing the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (Apacc) in October this year to produce highly competitive graduates. This was announced by senior academic director in Education, Department of Polytechnic and Community College, Zainab Ahmad, at a press conference after the first session of the polytechnic’s 27th convocation ceremony at its campus in Matang near here, Wednesday.

She said the initiative to enhance education quality in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) field would assist polytechnics to prepare TVET undergraduate students with skills and knowledge relevant to industry needs nowadays.

“Although Apacc will be initiated in Politeknik Kuching soon, we already have been gearing up efforts these three years, preparing our students here to meet the requirements,” she said. Zainab hoped the polytechnic would strive to obtain gold standard for the Apacc accreditation as it is a very prestigious accreditation, with a total of 16 countries as its members since 1987. “Sarawak has two more polytechnics and being the oldest campus in the state, we hope Politeknik Kuching Sarawak campus will achieve gold standard, along with nine other polytechnics throughout the nation which had been accredited with gold for Apacc,” she added.
