KUCHING: The use of the ‘six sigma’ is important to achieve the best outcome in any process, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The six sigma is a set of techniques and tools for process improvement.

“There are a lot of processes that change from a traditional to a digital economy. And for you to access the effectiveness of your applications, some say that is based on the six sigma.

“There are five important components of the six sigma – Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control (DMAIC)- important to know whether you can achieve your set target.

“Having said that, Sarawak is going towards that,” he said when officiating at an International Symposium on Digital Industry Transformation 2022 at CENTEXS Kuching, yesterday.

He added when the state government launched the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, it was based on data and had looked at the strength that Sarawak possessed.

“Our strength is that, we have power – hydropower that is renewable.

“Number two is that, we have the resources. The only thing is how you analyse your research, and then add value to it,” he said.

He added thirdly, Sarawak has many talented people and this is where CENTEXS comes in to develop talents through its courses and training.

“Hence, once we have natural resources and human resources, Sarawak will become a developed state by 2030.

“And this is based on the (DMAIC), this particular process is something new, the six sigma is something new in doing business,” he said.

Meanwhile, the symposium also saw the launch of six labs at CENTEXS Kuching namely, 5G Lab; Universal Technology Lab; E-Sports Lab; Internet of Things (IoT) Lab; Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0 Lab; and Smart Building & Electrical Lab.

CENTEXS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani said that these high-tech labs provided a state of the art facilities for better experiential teaching and learning.
