KUCHING: The building of a new and second campus of i-CATS University College (i-CATS UC) near Kampung Trombol in Telaga Air is to provide more avenues for Sarawakians, regardless of race or religion,  to acquire knowledge and skills.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said i-CATS UC does not discriminate on the basis of race or religion.

“Even if it is located in other vicinities, the element of favouritism doesn’t exist as it is not only meant for all communities in Sarawak but also targeted for students internationally,” he said in his speech during the 24th Sarawak Skills and i-CATS University College convocation at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), on Saturday.

His speech was read by Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development l, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Abang Johari also said that i-CATS University College complements the Sarawak government in its quest to develop a thriving society driven by data and innovation.

“With the support of its major stakeholders from the government and industries, i-CATS UC is developing a range of Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate/Ph.D. programmes to support Sarawak’s key economic sectors or main engines of growth.

“These programmes are aligned with the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“For example, recently it has launched two programmes, namely the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Agrotechnology, and Bachelor in Tourism and Hospitality (Honours),” he said.

Meanwhile, he urged the educators to explore more on their online teaching skills and “home-based learning” which is a new trend in the field of education.

“Our students as well need to adapt and participate in the new norms we are facing today.I believe virtual learning is the future in education,” he said.
