KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has likened the year of the rabbit and its special character to Sarawak.

Abang Johari describes the animal (rabbit) as having its own character, which he likens to Sarawak.

“I believe we will be able to overcome the challenges ahead if we apply and practice the spirit of the Year of the Rabbit,” he said.

He added that maintaining unity is crucial to developing the state and country.

“Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations have been an established tradition in Sarawak for a very long time.

“Certainly, when there is a strong unity among the community, we would be able to further advance the state and country forward,” he said during his CNY visit to the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Headquarters here today (Jan 22).

Following that, Abang Johari wished the Chinese community a prosperous and wonderful Lunar New Year.

Also present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar.
