KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will lead a delegation to Norway to study the country’s carbon storage infrastructure.

Officials from Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) will be joining the delegation as the oil and gas company is one of the two carbon trading licence holders in Sarawak.

“The representatives from Petros and I will be going to Norway to see how they store carbon as well as the infrastructure and technology used there,” he told the reporters after attending the 25th Sarawak Skills and i-CATS University College Convocation Ceremony, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday.

Apart from PETROS, Abang Johari said, Samling Group obtained a licence through its subsidiary, SaraCarbon Sdn Bhd, to conduct a study to start a carbon nature-based project in their industrial tree plantation area in Marudi, near Miri.

“Currently, Samling is also detailing their project with their business partners from Singapore,” he said.

To date, only two licences for carbon trading in Sarawak have been issued – Petros and Samling Group.

Petros was granted a licence by the Sarawak Land and Survey Department in March this year, as a resource manager for the state’s natural carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) resources.

The licence, issued by Sarawak Land and Survey Department, covers an area located in the North Luconia province, offshore Bintulu.
