KUCHING: Kampung Trombol, which lies about 30 minutes from here, holds out much potential especially in the tourism, education and economic sectors.

Deputy Minister for Utilities and Telecommunication (Utilities) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the suburban village can be an attraction for people if basic infrastructures can be built there quickly.

“As what the Kampung Trombol village chief said, people are urged to get involved in business and the tourism sector as the village is surrounded by nature.

“The village is also located near the Trombol Beach which is a potential tourism product.

“Plus, it is not far from the city centre, about 20 to 30 minutes from Kuching. This is a good thing,” he said.

He said this during the implementation of the Rural Water Supply Project (BALB) Reticulation System Zone 1 for Kampung Trombol and Kampung Nyabut, yesterday (Aug 24).

However, he added that there is an issue regarding the trail or road towards the beach which has been closed to the public and said to be privately owned by a certain individual.

A discussion with the local council will be held to deal with the problems faced by villagers, including to improve and build new infrastructures especially roads and basic facilities.

“This is still in discussion with the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to get help from the State government.

“Apart from that, the Premier has also announced that a local university will soon be built near Kampung Trombol in Telaga Air.

“This will surely have a massive impact on the community. Take Samarahan, for example, which has two universities for our children to study in,” said Abdul Rahman.

By having a higher education institute in the area, he said there will be a lot of people who will come and study here, especially when the location is near a beach, and can also be a potential education hub as well.

“Of course, this will be discussed together with related agencies and departments to make this come true.

“Furthermore, if Kampung Trombol and its surrounding areas are booming, there will be more plans for future development here,” added Abdul Rahman.
