Promoting eCommerce platforms in Sarikei

KUCHING: A total of 200 people are taking part in the Digital Transformation Week Sarikei 2019.

The event, organised by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) I Sarikei Innovation Centre (S.i.C) and powered by iCube Innovation (iCube), features various speakers from both East and West Malaysia representing companies such as Mahir Digital Bersama Google, Shopee University, Graband Facebook.

The three-day digital transformation workshop, which ends today, aims to migrate entrepreneurs from traditional business models to eCommerce platforms.

Entrepreneurs and business owners will be guided to create and market their items through eCommerce platforms and create successful social media campaigns to increase their businesses.

The objective of the Digital Transformation Week is to develop a foundation for digital economy through eCommerce.

Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who officiated at the event said; “I hope that the  people will take advantage of the events in Sarikei Innovation Centre to prepare for the future technological trends in eCommerce and online marketing.”

Participants were exposed to various programmes such as Kick-starting Your Own Business and Get Visible with Google My Business by Mahir Digital Bersama Google and Starting Your E-commerce Business and Marketing Tool Tips with Shopee on the first day.

On the second day, they were introduced to the Workshop Series for Facebook Marketing for Businesses by Jonathan Wong, Artificial Intelligence in Facebook and WhatsApp for Business by SM Purnima Wijendra.

Today, they will be given an insight into “Getting Your Business Found Online For Free!” by Kevin Chong.

A participant Rachel Hwang said the talks were very motivating, especially for the Sarikei community.

“For those who want to kick-start a business with a small budget, the way to start can be with Google My Business and by starting a digital shop at Shopee.

“I learnt that a digital shop or business faces less risk and has a higher return. Thanks for inviting good trainers from Google and Shopee,” she said, adding that she would definitely join the next workshop organised by SIC.

Another participant David Lim found the tips on kick-starting a business really useful.

“Online stores and eCommerce are something that I think is impossible for me to pursue.

“I’m glad that I managed to join the event. It is absolutely worth it, and I’m looking forward to joining it again next time,” he added.

Sarikei Innovation Centre, launched by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Sept 17, 2017, aims to revitalise Sarikei into a vibrant town with a platform of economic opportunities while guiding the local communities into the age of digital economy.

iCube assisted the transformation of the 80-year-old abandoned District Office into an innovation centre.
