KUCHING: The Free Prosthetic Implant Charity Programme has assisted 144 individuals in receiving artificial limbs since May of this year.

In disclosing this, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said his vision for the initiative is to provide artificial limbs to approximately 250 disabled Sarawakians.

“So far, the programme has successfully assisted around 144 individuals in receiving prosthetic arms and feet, marking a significant milestone achieved this month.

“These recipients come from diverse backgrounds, representing a mix of races, religions, and cultural traditions.

“The collaboration among various organisations has been instrumental in making this initiative a reality, fostering harmony and unity among these groups.

He said this to the reporters after a prosthetic limbs and education fund allocation handover ceremony for students in the Satok constituency held at Dewan Pertubuhan Anak Seni Bandarsah here today (Oct 17).

He also expressed his hope for the expansion of the prosthetic implant charity programme to include other districts such as Miri, Sibu and Gedong.

The prosthetic implant charity programme is a joint effort organised by the Persatuan Pengajian Sadhu Vaswani, Malaysia, Yayasan Peduli Tuna Daksa, Jakarta, and the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Several non-governmental organisations, including Che Hui Khor, Kchung, and Ming Ya Shan Ge, Jakarta, are also actively contributing to the cause.

The entire prosthetic implant programme requires a budget of RM250,000, with each artificial limb costing RM1,000. This amount covers the production of the artificial limb and all related expenses, including travel costs.

In addition to the prosthetic implants, students in the Satok constituency have received financial assistance.

A total of 21 students were granted approximately RM1,500 each. The aim of this assistance is to support students in their daily expenses, particularly those pursuing higher education at universities.

Ibrahim emphasised the commitment to assist students, noting that over 100 students in the Satok constituency have received support this year.

“Regardless of their background, students who apply for financial assistance will receive the necessary help, ensuring they can pursue their education without financial constraints,” he added.
