SIBU: The recent move by former members of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) to join the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) will lead to a more robust and expansive PDP, says political pundit Dr Gregory Hii.

He explained that this is due to the addition of three prominent state assemblymen: Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (Bawang Assan), Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa (Engkelili) and Baru Bian (Ba’Kelalan).

“All I can say is that these three are very experienced YBs who have occupied important Cabinet positions / appointments in the past.

“Where beneficial, the government should engage them in better administering our region and country,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune today (April 7).

However, Hii said that it may shift the balance of power within Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s coalition government in Sarawak, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“But I hope all changes will be geared towards how best Abang Johari and his coalition can better serve Sarawak, in particular, and Malaysia in general.

When asked to elaborate more on the balance of power in GPS, Hii declined to comment further.

The PSB decision of its ex-members to join PDP was announced at a welcoming party attended by PDP President Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, PDP Deputy President Datuk Henry Harry Jinep and others PDP Supreme council at a renowned hotel here last night (April 6).

With the absorption of PSB members into PDP, the latter will hold a total of eight State seats.

This includes Tasik Biru (Datuk Henry Harry Jinep), Krian (Friday Belik), Meluan (Roland Duat), Dudong (Tiong), and Marudi (Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil).

At the parliamentary level, PDP has two seats represented by Tiong (Bintulu) and Datuk Anyi Ngau (Baram).
