SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will take a new political road, said its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh. “I began my political career in 1991 after I was elected. I became the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) speaker in 1994.
“In the current political scenario, I was forced to leave the State Cabinet. “My decision is to chart a new political direction. This decision to leave is the aspirations and expectations of the people,” he said at the Sarawak Liing Hung Wong Clan Association’s 80th anniversary dinner here on Sunday.
Wong, who is Bawang Assan assemblyman, said the PSB branches set up throughout Sarawak was to cater to the aspirations of the people. “Xu Jinping once said, ‘The expectation of the people is to have better education, stable job, better income, better social security, better healthcare system and better living condition.’
They hope their children will grow up in these conditions.” He said these were also the aspirations of Sarawakians, which is the vision and objective of PSB. Besides, he said his party placed great emphasis on unity of all races whether in rural or urban areas in Sarawak.
He pointed out that towards achieving the party’s vision, he needed the people’s cooperation and unwavering support. Touching on the association, Wong said over the years, the early clan settlers who came from the south of Fujian, China had established influence and played a role in promoting development.
The association had performed well, he said, adding that it had provided a place to remember their ancestors and promote friendship, as well as to take care of the welfare and education of clan members. The association had also kept abreast with time, and the application of the webpage could lead the association to become international, he added.
