KUCHING: The State Library (Pustaka) will be organising the ‘1 File, 1 Week’ campaign which will be held from 26 to 27 February 2018 for the 13th series while the 14th series will be held from 28 February to 1 March 2018 at the State Records Repository from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

The campaign would cover three modules comprising Introduction to the Management of Records and Archives, Practical in Records and Archives processing, and Transfer of Departmental Records.

Pustaka Head of Archives Management Division , Dayangku Horiah Awang Gani and a librarian from Pustaka Archives Management Division, Ayu Lestari, would be facilitating the campaign.

The campaign aims to create awareness among the government departments and agencies on the importance of proper management and maintenance of records and archives. In addition, the campaign is to encourage the transfer of systematic records and archives of government departments and agencies to the State Records Repository.

The campaign is in line with the functions of Sarawak State Library as a Sarawak State Depository which requires all government agencies to transfer their valuable records and archives to the Sarawak State Library as per stated in the Sarawak State Library Ordinance, 1999, Section 14(1)(d) : “to maintain, preserve and keep public records which are more than twenty-five years old, and other documents, papers, instruments and statues, statutory orders, regulations or decrees, directed by State Secretary to be maintained, pre-served and kept in the State Depository on account of their historical value or public importance”.
