PBB members have been urged to continue to put the party interests above self, and remain loyal to the party to ensure the party remains strong.

Former PBB senior vice president Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong ( pic) said that because of the stability and unity in the party, PBB was able to win big in the 12th state election.

“Some people don’t pay attention to the party, but it is very important for the party to be strong.

“We must put the party first, and not personal interest. So, anyone who is in the party, must think that the party is bigger than himself or herself.

“This is so that the party can become stronger and stronger, and this is what PBB is today,” he said in an interview in conjunction with the PBB convention.

He stressed that as a politician and member of a party, including the young members, first, there must be a sense of loyalty and working for the party.

“Second, you must prioritise your constituents’ interests, and thirdly, play your role and duty as a YB (elected representative),” he pointed out.

At the same time, he said that the culture of PBB in giving way and opportunity to the young and capable ones to take over must be continued.

“In the last state election, I have decided to step down and gave way to the young to lead and hence have seen Dr Simon Sinang Bada winning the Tebedu seat.

“So, this is the culture that we need to maintain in PBB, but when you give way to the young, make sure you continue to give them your fullest support.

“This is what I did, I supported Dr Simon, my successor all the way until today,” said the former Tebedu assemblyman.

Manyin, 77, was an educator before joining politics. He has served as the Tebedu assemblyman from 1996 until his retirement from active politics last year.

He also held various portfolios in the Sarawak Cabinet under previous chief ministers — Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, and current Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

From 2017 to 2021, he was the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research.

During a recent interview, he informed that he would relinquish his position as PBB senior vice president.

“But politics is still in my heart. I’m still with PBB and supporting the party for as long as I’m still able to.

“Like in the last state election, I campaigned every night. In the next state election, God willing, if I’m still physically fit, I will be there campaigning,” he said, adding that he has no regrets joining politics.
