Python, cobra at residential homes keep APM busy

MIRI: A housewife from Kampung Lereng Bukit here has a shocking encounter early this morning when she discovered a three-metre-long python inside her chicken coop.

She came across the reptile while preparing a pre-dawn meal for her family.

Fortunately, none of her chickens were swallowed by the snake.

“I was doing some cooking this morning when I heard a loud noise coming from the chicken coop. Curious of the alarming sound, I went to check on my chickens,” said the woman who wished to remain anonymous.

Her 23-year-old son immediately alerted the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) for help around 5.28 am.

Upon receiving the distressed call, a four-man team was dispatched to the house and managed catch the snake within 10 minutes.

The reptile was released into its natural habitat far away from the residential area.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a one-metre-long cobra was removed from a shrine at a house at Jalan Aru 6 Holiday Park last night.

The home owner’s dog had been barking incessantly outside the house that night, prompting the owner to check.

Surprised to see the reptile hiding inside the shrine, the 30-year-old man immediately called up APM Miri for assistance.

Four APM personnel were sent to the house at 9.22 pm and they caught the snake in less than 10 minutes.
