Quick action saves house from fire

BINTULU: Swift action taken by a family managed to save their house at Jalan Sultan Iskandar Taman Bukit Orang here from being destroyed by a fire on Tuesday (Aug 3).

It was understood that a television in the living room caught fire and the occupants of the house managed to put out the flames by using two units of fire extinguishers.

No other damages were reported apart from the television and a cabinet.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre on Wednesday (Aug 4) said 11 firemen from Bintulu fire station rushed to the scene after a distress call was received at 9.29pm.

Upon arrival at the scene, which is located about 9km from the fire station, the firefighters found that the house owners have already extinguished the flames with the help from their neighbours.

The actual cause of the fire is yet to be determined as investigations are underway.
