Raids net 11 for drugs

BINTULU: Eleven local men were apprehended by the district police on Tuesday (June 21) for alleged drug abuse activities.

Bintulu police in their Facebook post on Wednesday (June 22) stated that the arrests were made during raids under operation codenamed Ops Tapis-Khas that were held at Jalan Abang Galau and Jalan Masjid.

“The 11 suspects, aged between 26 and 42, were arrested for drug abuse activities. Their urine tests were also positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“They are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and currently being detained for further action,” it said.

If convicted under the section, each will be fined not more than RM5,000 and imprisonment for two years and under supervision for two years.

Bintulu district police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit urged members of the public to call the police if they have any information of drug related criminal activities. They can call the district police at 086-318304.
