MIRI: The 500-metre long flyover along Pujut Link Interchange is now expected to be completed in March, Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said.

Originally slated to be completed by the end of this month, he said the delay was due to the constant heavy rain that hindered construction works.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) and the contractors are trying their best to complete it before this year’s Chinese New Year but unfortunately, we have to wait at least two months more for it to be completed,” he told the reporters during his site visit on Friday (Jan 28), adding that construction was 90 per cent complete.

Despite the heavy traffic flow in the area, Lee said the flyover could not have a temporary opening as it would be dangerous.

“Prior to the opening, we need to look into safety aspects. That is why JKR had to reschedule everything.

“But it is okay because safety comes first and we must comply with the safety requirements. Once it is open, the people in the surrounding areas will not be experiencing traffic jams anymore,” he said.
