SIBU: Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing last Sunday night helped to raise RM1.03 million for the development projects of SMK Chung Hua here.
At the Chung Hua Old Students’ Association’s installation ceremony for its new committee held at Kingwood Hotel on Sunday night, Tiong sang a song to raise the money. He was accompanied by chairman of Chung Hua Old Students’ Association, Teo Boon Siew.
SMK Chung Hua at Jalan Lanang is implementing two projects – the building a new school hall and the building of 10 classrooms.
In his speech, Tiong said he would get the federal government to contribute RM500,000 to the fund. Meanwhile, he personally pledged RM100,000.
Apart from that, a businessman, Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong also donated RM100,000, Chung Hua Old Students’ Association RM100,000, business tycoon, Dato Sri Lau Kueng Chai RM200,000 and Member of Parliament for Lanang, Alice Lau RM30,000.
“I urge former students of the school to come back and serve their alma mater in whatever capacity they can. You can work together with the school alumni to serve the school,” said Tiong.
Assistant Minister of Local Government, Datu Dr Penguang Manggil and Meluan state assemblyman, Rolland Duat were among those present at the event.
