MUKAH: The Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri Mukah has been cancelled this year as a mark of respect to the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“In addition to cancelling the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri Mukah, the Kaul Festival scheduled for April has also been postponed and will now coincide with the Mukah Regatta next July.

“However, Kaul Serahang Kakan will still be held on April 20 to respect the customs and traditions of the Melanau community,” Deputy Minister of Economy and Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib explained.

She made this announcement while speaking at the grant handover for People-Friendly Projects and Special Allocation Phase 1 of 2024 for the Mukah Parliamentary Constituency at the Mukah Service Centre meeting room here yesterday.

Furthermore, she informed that numerous programmes will be held in Mukah during this period, which is expected to boost the income of local residents.

“With the introduction of these programmes, we anticipate an increase in income for traders and a rise in tourist influx to Mukah. Additionally, we must emphasise cleanliness, as it indirectly attracts tourists to our area.”

In the same event, Hanifah also distributed RM500,000 to 44 recipients.

The beneficiaries include the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Association, longhouses, Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Hanifah expressed her hope that the grants provided could be utilised effectively to enhance the socioeconomic wellbeing of the local community.
