KUCHING: Preparations for the New Year Countdown 2020 Fiesta — which started yesterday until Dec 31 — are complete.
The event is organised by Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and will feature 12 interesting activities that will be held at the Square Tower, Kuching Waterfront here.
Among the 12 activities include the MSS Junior Show and various performances which started yesterday.
Other activities such as music and contemporary dance performances will be held today, along with the ‘Inspirasi Petiwiku’ concert.
On Dec 31, there will be a countdown to 2020 with fireworks and a fountain presentation.
According to a technical contractor on site, the set up for the stage and technical equipments are complete and ready to go.
MSS officer and programme administrator for the event Adzhar Julaihi, said that the highlight of the event is the concert that will showcase local performers — such as bands, singers and traditional dancers — from Sarawak.
Besides that, invited guests such as Dayang Nurfaizah, Andi Bernandee, Firdaus and Jad BDB are expected to perform in the ‘Inspirasi Pertiwiku’ concert.
In addition, there will also be performances by the Sarawak Symphony Orchestra (SONS) and Sarawak Traditional Orchestra (TONS) during the three-day event.
Meanwhile, there will be nightly musical fountain presentations until Dec 30 at 8.15pm and 10.15pm, accompanied by music.
On Dec 31, upon welcoming the New Year, there will be a fountain presentation at 12.05am and a fireworks display.
The stages are ready for the countdown celebration.
