LAWAS: Members of Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) were taken to task for being inconsistent in their decision making.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Sarawakians would not want to be led by leaders who are inconsistent and indecisive.

“When Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) did not support the proposed amendment to Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution in Parliament because it did not include ‘pursuant to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA 63)’, we were accused of not being patriotic.

“But when the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) tabled the motion to have a more comprehensive amendment to the Federal Constitution, it also got the support of the opposition members.

“This shows that they are not consistent… They just want to save their positions. This sort of leadership is not good,” he said during the launch of GPS Zone Lawas yesterday.

He said Sarawakians must understand that GPS truly wants to fight for the rights of Sarawakians.

“What I’m trying to also say here is that our DUN can only be governed by local parties and not Malaya-based parties.

“If we love Sarawak, we definitely do not want the state to be invaded by these people or else when they take over the DUN, our rights will be further eroded,” he said.

He said there are many unfulfilled promises by PH since they took over the federal government.

He said when projects approved by the previous government were cancelled consequently, the Sarawak government took over the projects because these projects were useful to the people.

“Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) has introduced over 60 initiatives for the development of Sarawak, and other development projects for the benefit of the people.

“So, this is a leader who truly cares for the people. And you must realise that only GPS can protect the rights and future of the people,” he stressed.

On the long delay of the Hospital Lawas project, Awang Tengah said he once told Works Minister Baru Bian the project had nothing to do with politics and works must go on.

“This is for the people, nothing about politics. But until now nothing has been done on Hospital Lawas,” he said.

He said now that Baru Bian is Works Minister, he is therefore in the position to influence the federal government leaders.

“He can even talk directly to the prime minister. If he truly cares for Sarawak and committed to look after the people, that’s what he should do. He has the power already but does not make full use of it,” he said.

Awang Tengah said the PH government lost in five by-elections, which shows that the people are angry and unhappy.

He said if Malayans are unhappy with the PH government, there is no reason for Sarawakians to not reject them too.

“Sarawakians must continue to be united, rally behind GPS to ensure GPS will continue to rule the state,” he said.

About 5,000 people came to witness the launch of GPS Zone Lawas by the chief minister.
