Rentap to defend Layar

BETONG: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has hinted that that Layar incumbent Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu will continue to serve the constituency.

“…Datuk Rentap Jabu will be our ‘manok sabong’ (fighter for Gabungan Parti Sarawak or GPS) later (in the coming state polls).

Addressing attendees at an earth-breaking ceremony of the Bebuling Airport in Spaoh here yesterday (Nov 30), the chief minister said more incumbents were likely to be re-nominated to defend their seat in the coming 12th state election.

“As well as all the other incumbents of ours, Insya-Allah, we will confirm it later on,” he said.

The incumbents Abang Johari was referring to were Deputy Chief Minister and Bukit Saban incumbent Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Beting Maro incumbent Razaili Gapor as well as Saribas incumbent Mohammad Razi Sitam who were present at the event.

In the 11th state election, Uggah won by 4,599 votes majority against his opponent Noel Changgai Bucking of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PRK) who only secured 925 votes.

Meanwhile, Rentap won with a majority of 1,428 votes defeating Vernon Albert Kedit of PKR who polled 2,503 votes.

As for Razaili, he had won with a majority of 1,707 votes against Hamidah Mokhtar of Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) and Andri Zulkarnaen Hamden of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) who polled 3,051 and 103 votes respectively.

Razi, on the other hand, won with a majority of 4,432 votes against his opponent Yakup Daud of PKR who only managed to secure 1,531 votes.
