KUCHING: Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman officiated at “Program Ambang Merdeka”, a special programme to celebrate National Day, at Metrocity Youth Night Market on Saturday (Aug 29).

The event was organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tupong.

“As we get closer to the important dates such as Merdeka Day, Malaysia Day or Sarawak Day, we will do a lot of programmes. Firstly, it is to remind the public the importance of the day.

“Secondly, it is for us to carry out activities. Tonight, we have opened a counter for registration of voters.  We also have exhibitions by Betta Fish Hobbyist Club and the Sarawak Scouts,” he said yesterday.

Fazzrudin also said the extension of the recovery movement control order (RMCO) was affecting the hawkers.

“But they know they have to comply with the orders by the government for the safety of the public.

“We are currently working within the constraints to seek opportunities within this RMCO period.

“On a positive note, business has been picking up for the hawkers but only a few face problems due to the lack of finances,” he added.

Also present were the chief of PBB Tupong, Ali Mohamad and chairman of the Petra Jaya Hawkers Association, Mohamad Khairuzie Bolhassan.

Fazzrudin entertain the visitors with several songs.
