KUCHING: Politicians should take the initiative to dive deep into issues affecting the people and look for opportunities to resolving them.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in stressing this said, too often politicians fail to highlight the particular issues affecting the livelihoods of the people when they are perched high in their positions.

This, he said, unfortunately meant that politicians usually wait until the people’s plight and troubles become unbearable before waking up to take action.

Tiong speaks to residents during his visit to Rh Catherine Tamoh.

“Political leaders who neglect to develop local areas when in power, letting them slide into disrepair and substandard living standards such as in Bawang Assan, reflect their lack of past achievements.

“It becomes even more confusing when they begin to issue statements criticising this same lack of development once they have left the Sarawak government. I believe the people will have their own judgements of their track record, he said in a statement on Sunday.

Tiong was referring to Bawang Assan assemblyman and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to People’s Republic of China, said he believed in sincerely contributing to fighting for the rights and interests of the people, before asking for their support, instead of the other way round.

Meanwhile, during a dialogue with residents of Rh Catherine Tamoh on Sunday, he mentioned that the success of rural development depended on good cooperation between the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) with elected representatives.
