Retiree dies after car collides with oil tanker lorry

SIBU: A retired civil servant was killed after the Perodua Kancil car he was in collided with an oil tanker lorry at Jalan Paradom–Bintangor near here yesterday.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said Muhamad Seman, 60, who retired last month died on the spot in the incident which occurred at 5.20pm.

He said the incident was believed to have occurred when the victim who was at the wheel of the car and was heading towards Sibu from Sarikei skidded and swerved into the opposite lane before colliding with the oil tanker lorry.

Stanley said it was raining during the incident adding that the 32-year-old driver of the oil tanker lorry escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile, Bintangor Fire and Rescue Station chief Nicholas Belulin said as upon arriving at the scene, they found the victim’s car had landed in a nearby ditch as a result of the collision. The fire and rescue personnel managed to extricate the victim who was trapped in the car at about 7pm. — Bernama
