KUCHING: A contribution of RM10,000 was recently handed over to the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of SK St Andrew, Sungai Apong.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen said that the contribution was for the purchase of necessary teaching tools, to benefit the students and teachers at the school.
“We were brought to see the new block of the school which was launched recently by the Archbishop Simon Poh during our visit to the school.”
“We are so glad to see the students now benefitting the new block,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 19).
He disclosed that with the new school year about to start, the school still lacks necessary teaching facilities and daily needs, which included bookcases, hand sanitizer and sanitizer soap, masks for students, office chairs, long conference tables, standing fans, lockers, and document cabinets among others.
“This is why I allocated RM10,000 to the school’s PTA for the purchase of those necessary items as requested by the school.”
“We have also contributed to the building of the pre-school kitchen block in the school that will help young children to learn some essential skills even at a young age,” he said.
He added that the team will be helping poor students in the school to purchase new uniforms to help their families.
“Despite our limited resources, we will still do our best to contribute to the development of education within our ability. This is so that all students can enjoy equal educational opportunities,” he said.
