KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized contraband cigarettes and alcoholic beverages worth more than RM300,000 last Sunday.

In the morning operation dubbed ‘Ops Libas’ around 7.45am, a team from GOF Sarawak Brigade headquarters carried out a raid around Kampung Sudat.

GOF Sarawak Brigade commander SAC Mancha Ata said the team found five locals aged between 20 and 40 in the area who claimed to be workers.

“Inspections led to the discovery of 300,000 cigarette sticks and 14,9328 litres of various branded alcoholic beverages, all of which are valued around RM311,199.55.

“The suspects failed to produce any valid ownership documents on the goods, namely suspected smuggled cigarettes and duty-not-paid alcoholic beverages,” he said.

Apart from that, the raid team also seized two multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and two lorries. The total seizure value including tax from the operations is worth around RM741,199.55.

Mancha said the suspects along with the seizures were handed over to Padawan police for further action.
