SIMANGGANG: A ground-breaking ceremony was held on Friday (June 26) for the construction of a road connecting Kampung Sungai Reboh, Batu Lintang Undop with Kampung Paku Ili, Undop.

The road with an estimated length of 3.7km will be built at a cost of RM500,000 under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation of Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, who is also Simanggang assemblyman.

The project was supposed to commence in April, but due to the movement control order (MCO) it had been extended. It was expected to start in July and took six months to complete.

Once the road is completed, there will be opportunities to explore the land for the purpose to cultivating commercial crops by the villagers.

It is hoped that this will increase the socioeconomic status of the residents involved in land development to generate more income.

Also present at the groundbreaking ceremony were Public Works Department (JKR) Sri Aman Division engineer Christopher George; its assistant engineer Shahabudin Abu Bakar; Sri Aman District Council deputy chairman Andar Suntai; Sanggau Nyuwai, Tuai Rumah Sungai Reboh, Batu Lintang, Undop; and Wiss Juing, Tuai Rumah Paku Ili, Undop.
