TARAT: The federal government, through the Education Ministry, has allocated RM56.88 million in Early School Assistance (BAP) to all students in Sarawak.
Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said this initiative will benefit a total of 379,205 students across 1,458 schools in all districts.
He said the BAP is not limited to any specific group but is provided to all students regardless of income.
“BAP is one of the ministry’s initiatives aimed at bridging the educational gap. This includes reducing the school dropout rate among poor students, students in remote areas, students with special needs, and minority groups,” he was quoted as saying in Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report during the 2024 Sarawak State-Level BAP cheque handover ceremony at SK St Peter Simpok recently.
Sagah also expressed confidence that the aid would ensure equal opportunities and capabilities for every student to commence their schooling and subsequently excel in curricular and co-curricular activities.
Apart from alleviating the financial burden of parents or guardians, he said BAP is also expected to boost students’ motivation to continue their education and become valuable contributors to their religion, nation, and country.
“I hope there will be no dropouts or leakages during the distribution of this aid. My hope is that this assistance will be fully utilised by all parents or guardians and students,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Director-General of Education Malaysia (Professionalism Development Sector) Shafruddin Ali Hussin and Serian District Education Officer Bunsie Tunton.
