PUSA: Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor hit out at Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) leaders for saying that the construction of the Second Trunk Road (STR) project is a waste and does not bring much benefit.

He said the rights of Sarawakians, including those living in the coastal areas, cannot be denied as they too deserve modern development.

“The upgraded coastal road cannot be equated with the Pan Borneo Highway project because it is a rural linked road.

“Therefore, I see the move to cancel or postponed the STR by PSB as denying the rights of the rural people along the coastal areas including Beting Maro,” he told New Sarawak Tribune’s sister paper Suara Sarawak yesterday.

He also said Beting Maro residents have been looking forward to the STR project to be carried out.

“I support, and the people also support, the implementation of the STR project which will pass through all areas of Beting Maro.

“It also crosses new areas from Triso to Spinang, Robon, Sebuyau, Lingga, Sri Aman and Betong, meaning it will create economic activities and opportunities when the STR is completed,” he stressed.

Razaili said PSB chief Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh was actually involved in the planning of route of the road, therefore wondered why he is suddenly against it.
