Norizan speaks to driver at the Advocacy Operation for Tinted Windows with the Sibu JPJ Branch and the Sarikei JPJ Branch at Teluk Assan Road near Lanang Bridge

SIBU: Road Transport Department (RTD) officers in Sarawak are consistently conducting advocacy operations on the installation of tinted windows on vehicles.

Its Director Norizan Jili said that through these advocacy efforts, RTD enforcement officers will provide clear explanations about the proper Visible Light Transmittance (VLT) levels and the regulations stipulated in the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991 (Amendment 2019).

“According to these rules, the VLT levels permitted for vehicle tinted windows are as follows: Front windows should have 70 per cent VLT, side windows for the driver’s left and right sides should have 50 per cent VLT, and the rear and rear side windows should have zero per cent VLT.

“The installation of excessively dark tinted windows that do not comply with these VLT levels can pose a danger to the driver and other road users, especially during night-time or heavy rain, as it may make it difficult to see while driving if the front window is too dark,” he said in a statement on yesterday (Oct 18).
