TATAU: A total of 10 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects in Kakus constituency are being implemented, with some already completed.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk John Sikie Tayai said all the RTP projects were the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government’s initiative to expand the development network in the rural areas.

“Today, we have visited 10 RTP projects in Kakus constituency starting from Nanga Tatau. A total of RM5 million was allocated under Kakus RTP for last year.

“In Tatau, there are 15 development projects, 10 RTP projects in Selangau and eight in Bawan,” he said when witnessing the handover of an RTP project involving construction works at Rumah Dickson Pedas Kana, Jalan Sangan here on Tuesday.

Sikie, who is also Kakus assemblyman, added that under the Projek Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak (PPRMS), each constituency has been allocated RM1 million in stages, with each stage amounting to RM500,000.

“Each longhouse door will be allocated assistance in the form of construction materials, with an allocation of RM2,000 to RM2,500. These construction materials consist of bricks and so on. Such assistance is very useful for the rural community and longhouses and it will be continued,” he said.

He also witnessed the handover of an RTP project involving concrete road upgrading works in front of Rumah Ulen, Tekalit as well as an RTP project involving road upgrades at Rumah Enjan Gos.

Tuai Rumah Enjan Gos expressed his gratitude to the GPS state government for the upgrade of the road leading to the longhouse for the comfort and convenience of locals.

“I am really happy with the 750-metre cement road leading to my longhouse. This makes it easier for longhouse residents to head out to the Tatau market,” he said.
