KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Attorney General Datuk Saferi Ali was appointed as the new state Attorney General to replace Datuk Seri Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid, effective September, 2023.

Saferi’s previous position will be held by Sarawak’s Senior Advocate Datuk John Wayne Chamberlin Sirau.

The symbolic handing over of duties and responsibilities was witnessed by State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here yesterday.

In a brief speech, Abu Bakar expressed his highest appreciation for all the services, commitment and dedication of Talat in carrying out the trust during his service as Attorney General of Sarawak, as well as expressing his congratulatory wishes to Saferi and John Wayne.

Meanwhile, Talat in his speech also thanked all those who have given him cooperation, support and trust during his service and hoped that Saferi would be able to shoulder the responsibility and trust given to him in the best possible way.

The ceremony ended with a photo session as soon as the symbolic handing over of duties and responsibilities was completed.

Also present at the ceremony were Sarawak Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Sarawak Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Sarawak Deputy Secretary (Administration) Datuk Buckland Bangik.
