BAU: The Bidayuh communities are urged to create more niche products in various sectors to attract more people in addition to improving their socioeconomic status.
In this regard, the Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn reminded the Bidayuh people to explore various business opportunities that can attract tourists.
He said that with proper development in the area, the people will be able to present various products in other places, within or outside the Bidayuh area.
“I would like to remind the Bidayuh community here and within the Greater Kuching area that we must have niche products that can be the source of economic growth for the people.
“Other Bidayuh areas or villages can also develop their own niche products because they can have better value.
“Recreational activities, homestays, or other commercial products can be business opportunities, given that better infrastructure has been developed in our areas,” said Sagah.
He said this at the opening ceremony of Bidayuh Cultural Village, Gawai Bani Redeems, and Redeems’ 25th anniversary celebration dinner held at the Redeems Centre in Singai here last night (Jan 14).
Other than that, he also congratulated Redeems Centre on its 25th anniversary celebration for its significance in representing the Bidayuh community and as a platform to grow and support the community as a whole.
In celebrating the opening of the Bidayuh Cultural Village, Sagah also said that it can be a potential location to hold various events.
“It would be a very good place for various events, including international events.
“If this happens, it would be a very good opportunity, as the tourism sector is a very big deal in the Bidayuh areas here.
“If we put in a lot of effort and stay united, hopefully we will be able to achieve something positive from this,” added the Tarat assemblyman.
Apart from that, Sagah hoped that with the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), the Bidayuh areas would be more developed and could bring benefits to the people.
“It will benefit all the communities in the area, not just the Bidayuh. With the agency, we can improve social economy activities, infrastructure and utilities, modern agriculture, and tourism, which is the main one.
“I believe all the Bidayuh assemblymen and MPs will be able to help realise this for the people, but we need good ideas, suggestions, and proposals to start this journey,” he added.
